Tom Thomson (1877-1917)

The emergence of Tom Thomson’s distinctive nature painting style mirrors his path in life. He began as a letterist doing precise, constrained work, but developed into a pioneer of bold outdoor art. Canada’s Group of 7 painting movement officially began upon the untimely death of Thomson, which spurred his artist friends to pursue his vision.
